				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are so much beautiful classic cars in the world&#8230; Cars that worth millions of dollars, cars that are so beautiful that are now considered works of art, cars that hit the road no more than an hour per year.</p>
<p>The greatest parts of the Bugattis, the Rolls Royces, the Isotta Fraschinis are never really driven. They do nothing except show their exceptionality in some Concours of Elegance, in the museums or at some selected event.</p>
<p>But cars aren&#8217;t made for stand still. Cars are made for the Peking to Paris, the London-Edimburgh, the Flying Scotsman.</p>
<p>Or for some fun in the middle of a field.</p>

Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of the doing sport is, having sweated, toiled, tried in every way to overcome the limits, to feel that the body responds perfectly as a well-tuned instrument, to feel the tension of every muscle that moves under the skin, and feel the intrinsic beauty of such a well oiled mechanism.<br />
So the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato becomes a thin dress stretched on the hypertrophic muscles of a well trained athlete, the body which becomes a mirror of the mechanical attention, the curves that are the expression of a well-balanced tension. Beautiful, yes, the long hood that ends with the open mouth of a hungry shark, the violent impetus of the proportions that, again, makes clear what she is capable of even if she remains still, and a small cockpit like a feline ready to jump.<br />
Born to try to break the motorsport hegemony of the Ferrari 250 GTO, she has never hit the target; on the other hand, under the liquid light of studio photographs, she appears in all her glory, a balanced composition in which each swelling appears as a tendon in flexion, as a muscular fascia, as an anatomical flash that makes her similar to a greyhound, both creatures perfectly adapted to the extreme speed.<br />
Helmut Newton knew well the extreme beauty that can reside in a well-sculpted body; in all its artistic life, the German photographer has immortalized his obsession with the body, predominantly female, always perfect. Sometimes surreal, others disturbing, others perversely fascinating, we often find in his works the pleasure of the artist who sees in the beautiful form of his model the means through which to express not only his conception of art, but also to celebrate the splendor of the sheath that has been assigned to us.<br />
He created alienating illusions which the spectator was asked to give an history and a meaning, images with a clear erotic substrate, that however was promptly denied by the alien expression, indifferent, almost hieratic, of the female protagonists, which put him further away from any vulgarity.<br />
In this photo Newton shows off the beautiful body of the model and then jewelry designer Elsa Peretti in a strange costume, in a photo in which the vertical thrust, a little alienating, of the American <em>skyline</em> emphasizes her long legs of the subject, drawn by the light in smooth curves, under which one senses, however, the profile of the bones, of the muscles, once again.<br />
And is the thinness and the pose that we do not typically associate with a magazine for men to contrast with the Playboy bunny costume, giving the illusion of a character out of time and out of place, for whom we are called to imagine a context, a story, and of which remains, above all, the extreme beauty.</p>

<p>Il corpo, nella sua forma più perfetta.<br />
L&#8217;aspetto forse più appagante del fare sport è, dopo aver sudato, faticato, tentato in ogni modo di superare i propri limiti, sentire il corpo che risponde alla perfezione come uno strumento ben accordato, sentire la tensione di ogni muscolo che si muove sotto la pelle, e percepire la bellezza intrinseca di un meccanismo tanto ben oliato.<br />
Così l&#8217;Aston Martin DB4 Gt Zagato diventa un vestito sottile teso sui muscoli ipertrofici di un atleta perfettamente allenato, il corpo che diventa specchio della cura meccanica, le curve che sono l&#8217;espressione di una tensione ben calibrata. Bellissima, certo, il lungo cofano che termina con la bocca aperta di un pescecane affamato, lo slancio violento delle proporzioni che, di nuovo, rende evidente ciò di cui è capace anche se resta ferma, ed un piccolo abitacolo da felino pronto a balzare.<br />
Nata per tentare di spezzare l&#8217;egemonia sportiva della Ferrari 250 GTO, non ha mai centrato l&#8217;obiettivo; in compenso, nella luce liquida delle fotografie da studio, appare in tutto il suo splendore, un equilibrio compositivo in cui ogni rigonfiamento appare come un tendine in flessione, come una fascia muscolare, come un guizzo anatomico che la rende simile ad un levriero, entrambe creature perfettamente adattate alla velocità estrema.<br />
Helmut Newton conosceva bene la bellezza estrema che può risiedere in un corpo ben scolpito; in tutta la sua vita artistica il fotografo tedesco ha eternato la sua ossessione per il corpo, prevalentemente femminile, sempre perfetto. A volte surreali, altre disturbanti, altre ancora perversamente affascinanti, ritroviamo spesso nelle sue opere il compiacimento dell&#8217;artista che vede nella forma bellissima del suo modello il tramite attraverso il quale non solo esprimere la propria concezione di arte, ma anche celebrare lo splendore dell&#8217;involucro che ci è stato assegnato. Creava illusioni spiazzanti, cui lo stesso spettatore era chiamato a dare una storia ed un significato, immagini con un chiaro sottofondo erotico che tuttavia veniva puntualmente smentito dall&#8217;espressione estranea, indifferente, quasi ieratica, delle protagoniste femminili, che lo metteva inoltre al riparo da qualsiasi volgarità.<br />
In questa foto Newton mette in mostra il bel corpo della modella e poi disegnatrice di gioielli Elsa Peretti in uno strano costume, in una foto in cui lo slancio verticale un po&#8217; straniante dello <em>skyline</em> americano sottolinea le lunghe gambe del soggetto, disegnato dalla luce in morbide curve, sotto le quali si intuisce però il profilo delle ossa, dei muscoli, ancora una volta.<br />
Ed è proprio la magrezza e la posa che non associamo tipicamente ad una rivista per soli uomini a contrastare col costume da coniglietta di Playboy, dando l&#8217;illusione di un personaggio fuori tempo e fuori luogo, per il quale siamo chiamati ad immaginare un contesto, una storia, e di cui ci resta, soprattutto, l&#8217;estrema bellezza.</p>

<p>The win over the wind, for the first time.<br />
The Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Le Mans does not represent, of course, the beginning of the aerodynamic research (which is probably begun when the first engineer has felt the wind in the face from a car in motion), but represents one of the first (although not the first ever) functional applications of a theory which, although not yet fully reliable, posed the penetration into the wind as the ultimate purpose of the shape of a coachwork.<br />
But above all, is certainly the first time that an aereodynamically valid car is so beautiful (and so fast).<br />
&#8220;Paris Air&#8221; signs the victory of the unclassifiable Marcel Duchamp on the aery.<br />
During a career wholly committed to broaden the borders of art (and of painting, which he had originally attempted), beyond the mere visual fruition, Duchamp identifies as its ultimate goal to bring back the painting to serve the mind, and in this sense &#8220;Paris Air&#8217; more than just a (indeed very poetic) game is a small, closed world, full of overtones even very subtle.<br />
The 2900b was created to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans of 1938, entrusted to the skilled driving gloves of Raymond Sommer and Clemente Biondetti, that however, nothing can do against two adverse arrows of the fortune, which take the appearance first of a destroyed tire, then of the failure of the valve stem (caused by the desperate maneuvers of Sommer who tried to stop the run of the 2900 with the tire in shreds).<br />
In fact, despite the perseverance of Biondetti, which pushes the enormous berlinetta for four kilometers to an end that he can not take, the hour of advantage accumulated is not enough, and the Alfa Romeo lacks the victory that was already her.<br />
Although never raced more the Hunaudières straight, the 2900b has already taken honor: thanks to the famous 220-hp double-Roots supercharged eight-cylinder, the berlinetta reaches 220 km/h, and before having to stop her race scores 189 km of advantage on the pursuer, the Delahaye that will cut the finish line first.<br />
Yet is not only in the mechanical qualities of the excellent eight-cylinder that lies the recipe of the 2900 competitiveness.<br />
A racing car is valid when is winning, and the 2900 plays its battle not so much against rivals on four wheels, but against an incorporeal and silent adversary: the air.<br />
Car manufacturers, after some attempts, more imaginative than scientifically reasoned, at the dawn of the century, started to use the aeronautical experience acquired during the First World War in the early &#8217;20s, creating an endless series of strange cars whose forms had very little of automotive, but that at least clearly detached from the &#8220;horseless carriage&#8221; shape.<br />
Various theories flourished, more and more eccentric, in which were gathered, however, surprisingly innovative ideas, from the birth of the &#8220;minivan&#8221;, which will not be retrieved that several decades later, to a first theory of total integration of both pairs of wheel arches in the vehicle body (significant in this sense is the 1936 Voisin Aèrosport).<br />
In 1922 the Austrian Paul Jaray, who had worked with Zeppelin also in the wind tunnel, for the construction of the famous dirigibles, perhaps for the first time tried to apply the knowledge acquired on land vehicles, knowing that penetrate better the air means being able of make a better use of engines that, at the time, inevitably are not yet efficient either in terms of power nor of consumption. His first Jaray-Ley by the perfect teardrop shape, narrow, high and smooth, however, will not have success, too different and too disharmonic, but will definitely arrange the characters of the theory of its designer: long and pointed tail, tight and enveloping passenger compartment, surfaces free of any interruption, chromium plating, line, which could contaminate the air flow.<br />
Fifteen years later, it will be Wunibald Kamm to propose an overrun of the ideas of Jaray: Kamm sets amongst other things a relationship between the width of the car and its length, which should reduce air turbulence especially in the rear area, always cross and delight of those who try to dominate the wind. The Kamm tail is truncated and tapered, very different from the drops of Jaray, yet acts in a similar way, but with much less overall dimensions (it is still more efficient the drop shape, but this improvement not always worths the weight gain that a tail kilometric as that of Adler Trumpf Rennwagen Le Mans 1936, unavoidably brings with it). The BMW nicknamed Coupe-Kamm, based on the 328, has a coefficient of only 0.25, very low even by current standards.<br />
Our Alfa Romeo has been tested in a wind tunnel in 1987, showing in road configuration a Cx of 0,42, which among other things, testifies to the low efficiency of the design of some mechanical parts, and not of the body, as that, with the front air intakes sealed, the Cx drops to an excellent 0,37. Said this, the car does not perfectly put into practice the theories of Kamm, since vortices still are generated especially at the sides, which continue in the back (here a partially truncated tail). However, unlike today, where the design of racing cars is pure functionality, at the Touring they should have had an eye for the look of the berlinetta, which, independently of any consideration on its validity, it&#8217;s absolutely amazing, and paradigmatic of a race car in its purest form.<br />
<a href="http://www.streetfire.net/video/victory-by-design-alfa-romeo-8c-2900b_2069958.htm">Watching her moving</a> means to assist with eyes full of wonder at the dancing of an object by the kilometric hood that pushes the smooth front in the curves maybe without too much precision, but with an unique beauty. Even the split tail, which may need to get a little used to being really appreciate, does nothing but crying <em>speed</em> from every inch of metal sheet.<br />
If the 2900b devours the asphalt with the serene fury of those who can not do anything else, &#8220;Paris Air&#8221; is another <em>ready-made</em> in which Marcel Duchamp uses a common and apparently insignificant object, stripping him of its initial purpose to give it a completely different one.<br />
Originally a container of saline solution of pharmacy, Marcel Duchamp got the bottle open, emptied, and make resolded it again, therefore making it a corpus concluded without any possibility of change, inside which locks forever the moment of its creation.<br />
Beyond the immediately poetic aspect of the idea of imprisoning that which by its nature is intangible and formless, the air, and therefore beyond the mocking objectification of the dream that man cultivated for thousands of years (to dominate the celestial space above), &#8220;Paris Air&#8221; becomes a portable talisman, in connection with certain aspects of the work of Duchamp, like the interest in alchemy, that in fact he will initially give it to one of his friends.<br />
Yet is not all. The simple empty glass bottle is connected to the life of Duchamp, becoming the metaphor of his morbid relationship with his sister, whose marriage to a pharmacist makes her empty just like the inside of the ampoule; again, is an ambiguous container with a sexual and macabre implication, having regard to the form that openly cites the female pelvis and yet is hanging by the thinnest part, as hanged to the loop which is its neck.<br />
In this sense the unhealthy attachment to his sister became also the occasion for a rejection of the female body and the entire sexuality.<br />
Duchamp, finally, does not remove the label that says &#8220;Serum physiologique&#8221;, playing on the double meaning of <em>saline solution</em> and <em>blood</em>.<br />
And then if the 2900b is a further step in the long history of attempts to dominate the wind performed by the man, from Icarus onwards, Marcel Duchamp is content to imprison 100 cc of air (measure on which the artist consciously lies, halving it, playing further on the discrepancy between how the work appears and what it really is) of Paris where they can not escape, in this way marking its own victory, as much slight, as much dense with meaning that fish with both hands from his psyche.</p>
<p>The Alfa Romeo 2900b LeMans, after passing through many hands, even overseas, was exchanged for parts of the Alfetta 158 and is now part of the collection of the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese.<br />
&#8220;Paris  Air&#8221; has been replicated in a total of eleven copies, after the breaking of the original.</p>

Nel corso di una carriera artistica tutta impegnata ad allargare i confini dell&#8217;arte (e della pittura, in cui lui si era originariamente cimentato), oltre la mera fruizione visiva, Duchamp identifica come suo scopo ultimo il <em>riportare la pittura al servizio della mente, </em>ed in questo senso &#8220;Aria di Parigi&#8221; più che un semplice gioco (invero molto poetico) è un piccolo mondo chiuso, denso di sottintesi anche molto sottili.<br />
La 2900b nasce per competere alla 24 Ore di Le Mans del 1938, affidata agli abili guanti da pilota di Raymond Sommer e Clemente Biondetti, che tuttavia nulla potranno fare contro due frecciate avverse della fortuna, che prendono le sembianze prima di uno pneumatico distrutto, poi di un guasto allo stelo delle valvole (causato dalle disperate manovre di Sommer che tentava di frenare la corsa della 2900 col pneumatico a brandelli).<br />
Infatti, nonostante la perseveranza di Biondetti, che spinge l&#8217;enorme berlinetta per quattro chilometri fino ad un traguardo che non riuscirà a cogliere, l&#8217;ora di vantaggio accumulata non basta, e l&#8217;Alfa Romeo manca la vittoria che era già sua.<br />
Anche se non correrà mai più sul rettilineo di Hunaudières, la 2900b si è comunque fatta onore: grazie al famoso otto cilindri in linea da 220 CV sovralimentato da doppio Roots,  la berlinetta arriva a 220 km/h, e prima di dover interrompere la propria corsa totalizza 189 km di vantaggio sull&#8217;inseguitrice, la Delahaye che taglierà poi il traguardo per prima.<br />
Eppure non è solo nelle doti meccaniche dell&#8217;ottimo otto cilindri che si cela la ricetta della competitività della 2900.<br />
Un&#8217;auto da corsa è valida quand&#8217;è vincente, e la 2900 gioca la propria battaglia non tanto contro le rivali a quattro ruote, ma contro un avversario incorporeo e silenzioso: l&#8217;aria.<br />
I costruttori di automobili, dopo qualche tentativo, più fantasioso che scientificamente ragionato, agli albori del secolo, misero a frutto le esperienze aeronautiche acquisite durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale agli inizi degli anni &#8217;20, dando vita ad una serie infinita di curiose autovetture la cui forma aveva ben poco di automobilistico, ma almeno si distaccava nettamente dalla forma a &#8220;carrozza senza cavalli&#8221;.<br />
Fiorivano teorie varie e sempre più eccentriche, in cui si colgono però spunti sorprendentemente innovativi, dalla nascita della formula &#8220;monovolume&#8221;, che non verrà recuperata che diversi decenni dopo, ad una prima teoria di integrazione totale di entrambe le coppie di passaruota nel corpo vettura (significativa in questo senso è la Voisin Aérosport del 1936).<br />
Nel 1922 l&#8217;austriaco Paul Jaray, che aveva collaborato con Zeppelin anche in galleria del vento, per la costruzione dei noti dirigibili, tentò forse per la prima volta di riportare le conoscenze apprese ai veicoli terrestri, conscio che penetrare meglio l&#8217;aria significa poter sfruttare meglio motori che per forza di cose, all&#8217;epoca non sono ancora efficienti né in termini di potenza né di consumo. La sua prima Jaray-Ley dalla perfetta forma a goccia, stretta, alta e levigata tuttavia non avrà successo di pubblico, troppo diversa e troppo disarmonica, ma fissò definitivamente i caratteri della teoria del suo progettista: coda lunga ed appuntita che termina fino ad esaurirsi, abitacolo stretto ed avvolgente, superfici prive di alcuna interruzione, cromatura, linea, che potesse sporcare il flusso d&#8217;aria.<br />
Quindici anni dopo, sarà Wunibald Kamm a proporre un superamento delle idee di Jaray: Kamm stabilisce fra l&#8217;altro una relazione fra la larghezza dell&#8217;automobile e la sua lunghezza, che dovrebbe ridurre la turbolenza dell&#8217;aria specie nella zona posteriore, da sempre croce e delizia di chi tenta di dominare il vento. La coda Kamm è tronca e rastremata, molto diversa dalle gocce di Jaray, eppure agisce in modo simile, ma con molto meno ingombro (è comunque più efficiente la forma a goccia, ma tale miglioramento non sempre vale l&#8217;aumento di peso che una coda chilometrica come quella delle Adler Trumpf Rennwagen Le Mans del 1936 inevitabilmente si porta dietro). La BMW soprannominata Coupé-Kamm, su base 328, ha un coefficiente di solo 0,25, molto basso anche per gli standard attuali.<br />
La nostra Alfa Romeo è stata testata in galleria del vento nel 1987, dimostrando in configurazione stradale un Cx di 0,42, che fra l&#8217;altro testimonia la scarsa efficienza del disegno di alcuni particolari meccanici, e non di carrozzeria, visto che, a prese d&#8217;aria anteriori sigillate, il Cx scende ad un ottimo 0,37. Detto ciò, l&#8217;auto non mette in pratica perfettamente le teorie di Kamm, visto che si generano comunque vortici soprattutto ai lati, che proseguono nel retro (qui a coda semitronca). Tuttavia, a differenza di oggi, dove il disegno delle auto da corsa è pura funzionalità, alla carrozzeria Touring devono aver avuto un occhio di riguardo per l&#8217;aspetto della berlinetta, che, indipendentemente da ogni considerazione sulla sua validità, è assolutamente strepitoso, e paradigmatico di un&#8217;auto da corsa nella sua forma più pura.<br />
<a href="http://www.streetfire.net/video/victory-by-design-alfa-romeo-8c-2900b_2069958.htm">Guardarla muoversi</a> significa assistere con gli occhi pieni di meraviglia al danzare di un oggetto dal cofano chilometrico che infila il morbido muso nelle curve forse senza troppa precisione, ma con una bellezza davvero unica. Perfino la coda sdoppiata, alla quale forse bisogna abituare un po&#8217; l&#8217;occhio per apprezzarla davvero, non fa che gridare <em>velocità </em>da ogni centimetro di lamiera.<br />
Se la 2900b divora l&#8217;asfalto col sereno furore di chi non sa fare altro, &#8220;Aria di Parigi&#8221; è l&#8217;ennesimo <em>ready-made </em>in cui Marcel Duchamp utilizza un oggetto apparentemente comune ed insignificante, spogliandolo del suo scopo iniziale per donargliene un altro completamente diverso.<br />
Originariamente un contenitore di soluzione fisiologica da farmacia, Marcel Duchamp fa aprire la boccetta, la svuota, e la fa risaldare nuovamente, rendendola quindi un corpus concluso e senza possibilità di mutamento, al cui interno blocca per sempre l&#8217;istante della sua creazione.<br />
Oltre l&#8217;aspetto immediatamente poetico dell&#8217;idea di imprigionare ciò che per sua natura è impalpabile e privo di forma, l&#8217;aria, e quindi oltre all&#8217;oggettivazione beffarda del sogno che l&#8217;uomo coltiva da millenni (dominare lo spazio celeste che lo sovrasta), &#8220;Aria di Parigi&#8221; diventa un talismano portatile, ricollegandosi a certi aspetti di interesse verso l&#8217;alchimia nel lavoro di Duchamp, che infatti inizialmente lo donerà ad un suo amico perché lo porti con sé.<br />
Eppure non è tutto. La semplice boccetta di vetro vuota si ricollega al vissuto di Duchamp, diventando la metafora del suo morboso legame con la sorella, il cui matrimonio con un farmacista la rende vuota esattamente come l&#8217;interno della fiala; ancora, è un ambiguo contenitore dal sottinteso sessualmente macabro, vista la forma che cita apertamente un bacino femminile e che tuttavia viene appesa per la parte più sottile, come impiccata all&#8217;ansa che ne rappresenta il collo.<br />
In questo senso l&#8217;attaccamento morboso verso la sorella diventa anche occasione per un rifiuto del corpo femminile e della sessualità intera.<br />
Duchamp, infine, non toglie l&#8217;etichetta che recita &#8220;Serum physiologique&#8221;, giocando sul doppio significato di <em>soluzione fisiologica </em>e <em>sangue.</em><br />
Ed allora se la 2900b segna un ulteriore passo avanti nella lunga storia di tentativi di dominare il vento attuata dall&#8217;uomo da Icaro in poi, Marcel Duchamp si accontenta di imprigionare 100 cc di aria (misura sulla quale l&#8217;artista consapevolmente mentirà, dimezzandola, giocando ulteriormente sulla discrepanza fra ciò che l&#8217;opera appare e ciò che realmente è) di Parigi laddove non possono più fuggire, segnando in questo modo una propria vittoria, per quanto lieve, per quanto densa di sottintesi che pescano a piene mani dalla sua psiche.</p>
<p>L&#8217;Alfa Romeo 2900b LeMans, dopo essere passata in molte mani anche oltreoceano, è stata scambiata con parti di un&#8217;Alfetta 158 e fa ora parte della collezione del Museo Alfa Romeo di Arese.<br />
&#8220;Aria di Parigi&#8221; è stato replicato in un totale di undici copie, dopo la rottura dell&#8217;originale.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s hard to think, <em> today,</em> to the car as a monster of steel that, lost every tier, violently devours a (dirt) road, thrown towards the future; we are much more used to start our car, drive a few kilometers stuck in a traffic jam, in the center of a city neatly paved, full of speed cameras and speed limits, and then stop, not before having raged for the lack of parking.<br />
Yet the automobile is something else: even in the most modest of cars there is a heart of shiny cylinders and pistons in constant motion; all the Fiat Pandas descend from the &#8220;red rash car&#8221; of D&#8217;Annunzio, and in the end little separates them, conceptually, from the first fire-breathing monsters of a hundred years ago.<br />
If started as a whim for a few, expensive, delicate, uncomfortable, slower than a horse, and lacking of a personal form, usurping that of the carriages, the car conquests immediately a place of respect in the hearts of everyone, both those who can afford it, and those who can not even dream of it.<br />
The horse, beautiful animal, is on the go from thousands of years, used in any way and in every place, and there is no more charm in its use for moving. The car instead, is a brilliant innovation: strangely his potential is immediately recognised and, thanks to the rich elite that persists in every country, the first cars multiply, which will profoundly alter not only the landscape but also our own perception of it.<br />
Are initially tricycles, then horseless carriages, with the driver positioned upward as to watch the horses, then again big torpedos where the volumes are in any way connected or minimally harmonized, each part taking shape on its own, purely functional and devoid of aesthetic characterization.<br />
Remarkable, obviously, is in this period the birth, totally innovative, of the idea that a car can be sold even to those who work in its construction; Henry Ford, doing so, paved the way, at least potentially, to mass motorization, in 1908 and in the twenty years to follow, with the wages of employees that rises while the price of the Model T goes down to $ 285, at least cheap for those who already earn 8 $ per day.<br />
Begins to no longer be only a capricious toy for the rich, but an useful object for all, easy to fix and solid, capable to revolutionize society and profoundly change the urban grid, which begins to take a shape more and more suitable for transportation.<br />
Example of the role that the car begins to play in the society is the Manifesto of Futurism, the artistic and cultural current that exalts, among other things, the speed, and that already in 1909 contains the phrase &#8220;We declare that the splendor of the world has been enriched by a new beauty: the beauty of speed. A racing car with its hood adorned with big tubes like serpents with explosive breath &#8230; a roaring car that seems to ride on grapeshot is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace. &#8220;.<br />
And it takes yet little, only ten years and the beginning of the Jazz Age, to bring for the first time the car to the state of the art. Between the early &#8217;20s and the outbreak of the Second World War there is a sudden explosion of a new awareness in both rich clients and in the coachbuilders, at last leading to the emergence of automobiles (now became females) in which the final appearance is given by the cohesion of parts, each beautifully sculpted into a whole that suggests, at last, <em>speed</em>.<br />
Still remain, of course, the large radiators nearly vertical like Greek temples, but the rest of the body tenses in a light and athletic dress that allows a glimpse of all the muscles, in a streamlined body that plays with the air.<br />
These were the years of the amazing Bugattis, Isotta Fraschini, Bentley, and many others that it is impossible to mention, the years in which the car becomes more than ever, myth, icon, collective dream: the car is Tamara de Lempicka in the green Bugatti, the undertakings of Tazio Nuvolari, the Mille Miglia and Brooklands, the concours d&#8217;elegance where beautiful women allow themselves to be photographed smiling behind the wheel of unique creations commissioned by the world&#8217;s richest dynasties. These are the years which celebrates the birth of the true status symbol, the collective myth, in a society divided between advancing modernity and an organization of classes still almost feudal.<br />
And the eccentric and flamboyant cars of this long fifteen years are the glossy companions of who keeps the dawn at nightclubs pursuing a light life that dances on the edge of the abyss, summarized in the trails of lights that break up the summer night on the road from Paris to the Cote d&#8217;Azur.<br />
The big Scintilla and Ducellier will be the last fires of a society that will fall quickly in the black abyss of war, suddenly snatching the car (and with it dreams and projections) to civilian life and making of it an auxiliary tool, the light glory of the spiders and the race cars tarnished by the tragedy that leaves no room for sophisticated creations.</p>

<p>È difficile pensare, <em>oggi,</em> all&#8217;automobile come ad un mostro d&#8217;acciaio che, perso ogni legaccio, divori violentemente la strada (bianca), slanciata verso il futuro; siamo molto più abituati a mettere in moto la nostra utilitaria, percorrere qualche chilometro a passo d&#8217;uomo imbottigliati nel traffico, nel centro di una città ordinatamente asfaltata, piena di autovelox e limiti di velocità, e poi fermarci, non prima di aver inveito per la mancanza di parcheggio.<br />
Eppure l&#8217;automobile è un&#8217;altra cosa: perfino nella più modesta delle utilitarie c&#8217;è un cuore di cilindri lucidi e pistoni in perenne movimento; tutte le Fiat Panda discendono dalla &#8220;rossa macchina precipitosa&#8221; di D&#8217;Annunzio, ed infine poco le separa, concettualmente, dai primi mostri sputafuoco di cento anni fa.<br />
Se nasce come un capriccio per pochi, costosa, delicata, scomoda, più lenta di un cavallo, e priva di una forma sua propria, usurpatrice di quella delle carrozze, l&#8217;automobile conquista subito un posto di rispetto nel cuore di tutti, sia coloro che possono permettersela, sia coloro che non possono neanche sognarla.<br />
Il cavallo, animale bellissimo, è sulla breccia da millenni, utilizzato in ogni modo ed in ogni luogo, e non c&#8217;è più fascino nel suo uso per gli spostamenti. L&#8217;automobile invece, è una fulgida novità: stranamente il suo potenziale viene subito intuito e, grazie alla ricca élite che persiste in ogni paese, si moltiplicano <strong>i</strong> prim<strong>i </strong>automobili, che modificano profondamente non solo il paesaggio, ma anche la nostra stessa percezione di esso.<br />
Inizialmente sono tricicli, poi carrozze senza cavalli, con lo chauffeur posizionato in alto come per guardare oltre i destrieri, poi ancora grandi torpedo in cui tuttavia i volumi non sono in alcun modo raccordati né minimamente armonizzati, configurandosi ognuno come pezzo a sé stante, puramente funzionale e privo di caratterizzazione estetica.<br />
Degna di nota, ovviamente, è in questo periodo la nascita, assolutamente innovativa, dell&#8217;idea che un&#8217;automobile può essere venduta perfino a chi lavora alla sua costruzione; Henry Ford, così facendo, spiana la strada, perlomeno in potenza, alla motorizzazione di massa, nel 1908 e nei vent&#8217;anni a seguire, con il salario dei dipendenti che si alza e contemporaneamente il prezzo della Model T che scende fino a 285 dollari, in fondo pochi per chi ne guadagna già 8 al giorno.<br />
Comincia a non essere più solo un capriccioso giocattolo da ricchi, ma un oggetto utile a tutti, semplice da riparare e robusto, capace di rivoluzionare profondamente la società e modificare il tessuto urbano, che comincia a configurarsi sempre più a misura di mezzo di trasporto.<br />
Esemplificativo del ruolo che l&#8217;automobile comincia a ricoprire nella società è il Manifesto del Futurismo, corrente artistica e culturale che esalta, fra l&#8217;altro, proprio la velocità, e che già nel 1909 contiene la frase &#8220;Noi affermiamo che la magnificenza del mondo si è arricchita di una bellezza nuova; la bellezza della velocità. Un automobile da corsa col suo cofano adorno di grossi tubi simili a serpenti dall&#8217;alito esplosivo&#8230; un automobile ruggente, che sembra correre sulla mitraglia, è più bello della Vittoria di Samotracia.&#8221;.<br />
E ci vuole ancora poco, dieci anni soltanto e l&#8217;inizio dell&#8217;età del Jazz, per portare per la prima volta l&#8217;automobile allo stato dell&#8217;arte. Fra l&#8217;inizio degli anni &#8217;20 e lo scoppio della Seconda Guerra Mondiale si assiste all&#8217;esplosione improvvisa di una nuova consapevolezza sia nei ricchi committenti, che nelle carrozzerie, che porta alla nascita finalmente di automobili (diventate ora femmine) in cui l&#8217;aspetto finale è dato dalla coesione di parti ognuna mirabilmente cesellata in un insieme che suggerisce finalmente <em>velocità</em>.<br />
Restano, certo, i grandi radiatori quasi verticali come templi greci, ma il resto della carrozzeria si tende in un vestito leggero ed atletico che ne lascia intravedere tutti i muscoli, in un corpo streamlined che gioca con l&#8217;aria.<br />
Sono gli anni delle strepitose Bugatti, Isotta Fraschini, Bentley, e tante altre che è impossibile citare, gli anni in cui l&#8217;automobile diventa più che mai mito, icona, sogno collettivo: l&#8217;automobile è Tamara de Lempicka nella Bugatti verde e le imprese di Tazio Nuvolari, la Mille Miglia e Brooklands, i concorsi d&#8217;eleganza dove donne bellissime si lasciano fotografare sorridenti al volante di creazioni uniche commissionate dalle dinastie più ricche del mondo. Sono gli anni in cui si celebra la nascita del vero e proprio status symbol, del mito collettivo, in una società divisa fra modernità avanzante ed un&#8217;organizzazione delle classi ancora quasi feudale.<br />
E le automobili eccentriche e flamboyant di questo lungo quindicennio sono le patinate compagne di chi tira l&#8217;alba nei locali notturni inseguendo una vita leggera che danza sull&#8217;orlo del precipizio, sintetizzate nelle scie dei fari che interrompono la notte d&#8217;estate sulla strada da Parigi alla Costa Azzurra.<br />
I grandi Scintilla e i Ducellier saranno gli ultimi fuochi di una società che precipiterà in fretta nel gorgo nero della guerra, strappando bruscamente l&#8217;automobile (e con essa sogni e proiezioni) alla vita civile e confinandola a mezzo ausiliario, la gloria lieve delle spider e delle auto da corsa offuscata dalla tragedia che non lascia più spazio a creazioni raffinate.</p>

<em> He, too, snowy like the statues seated next to him.</em></p>
<p>Color comes from the capacity of objects to reflect certain frequencies of white light; the white color comes precisely when a body absorbs all frequencies re-giving off them. It&#8217;s then a color that in itself hides and includes all others.<br />
Over the years we have been accustomed to associate to the white color a series of symbolic implications (purity, and yet, even alienation, emptiness, loneliness, even death), perhaps more than to any other color, but the truth is just the opposite: white is the color of the absence.<br />
Piero Manzoni chooses it for his &#8220;Achromes&#8221; to make clear how is the absence of gesture and artistic creation the true subject of the representation; in the first paintings of this series the color is applied directly onto the canvas, as if it was a base to be painted then, an evolving object the realization of which, however, stops at this stage. Nothing is represented in reality, everything is represented in potency.<br />
The creative message is given to the expressive power of the color-not color, which bathes and saturates forms and everyday objects transformed up to be just symbols.<br />
Once again, the meaning of the work lies only in its appearance, which<br />
here is simply and empty as a mute speech.<br />
Similarly, the Alfa Romeo Flying Star makes of the white her expressive tract, reaching the result of a pure work of great elegance, where the flawless perfection of form is combined with a dazzling light that spares no details of the car.<br />
Created in 1931 by the Carrozzeria Touring of Milan for a woman, Josette Pozzo, is a roadster whose beautiful design integrates perfectly innovative (the useless platform divided into two parts thet seems an arabesque) and classical details (the typical Alfa Romeo radiator), where stylistic cohesion is charged all to the very special livery, absolutely undisturbed by any particular that deviates from the chosen figure. A car like a ghost, like a white swan, like a mysterious creature that frees itself from reality and slips into a world of ostrich eggs and cotton candy, an object absolutely uncomfortable in everyday life, born to ride the streets of dreams.<br />
It&#8217;s beautiful, the long hood emphasized by the chrome strip that joins the small door, the white spoke wheels, the big yellow and white lights, and its beauty lies mainly in its unreal nature, the nature of an object without grease, motor oil, gas and black smoke.<br />
It&#8217;s a car, of course, but also its negation, as the works of Manzoni represent both art and its absence.</p>

<p>Il colore nasce dalla capacità degli oggetti di riflettere una certa frequenza della luce bianca; il color bianco nasce appunto quando un corpo assorbe tutte le frequenze riemettendole. E&#8217; dunque un colore che in sé nasconde e comprende tutti gli altri.<br />
Negli anni siamo stati abituati ad associare al colore bianco tutta una serie di implicazioni simboliche (purezza; eppure, anche alienazione, vuoto, solitudine; addirittura morte), forse più che ad ogni altro colore, eppure la verità è proprio l&#8217;opposto: il bianco è il colore dell&#8217;assenza.<br />
Piero Manzoni lo sceglie per i suoi &#8220;Achromes&#8221; per sottolineare come sia l&#8217;assenza di gesto e creazione artistica il vero soggetto della rappresentazione; nelle prime tele di questa serie il colore viene applicato direttamente sulla tela, come se si trattasse di una base su cui poi dipingere, un oggetto in divenire la cui realizzazione si arresta però a questo stadio. Niente viene rappresentato in realtà, tutto è rappresentato in potenza.<br />
Il messaggio creativo è affidato alla potenza espressiva del colore-non colore, e solo a lei, che bagna ed intride forme ed oggetti di uso quotidiano trasfigurati fino ad essere solo segni grafici.<br />
Ancora una volta, il significato dell&#8217;opera risiede unicamente nel suo aspetto, che qui è vuoto e semplice come un discorso muto.<br />
Analogamente, l&#8217;Alfa Romeo Flying Star fa del color bianco il suo tratto espressivo, raggiungendo il risultato di un&#8217;opera purissima e di grande eleganza, in cui l&#8217;impeccabile perfezione formale si sposa ad un chiarore abbagliante che non risparmia alcun particolare dell&#8217;automobile.<br />
Creata nel 1931 dalla Carrozzeria Touring di Milano per una donna, Josette Pozzo, è una spider il cui felice disegno integra perfettamente particolari innovativi (l&#8217;inutile predella divisa in due parti che sembra un arabesco) e classici (il tipico radiatore Alfa Romeo), dove la coesione stilistica è rimandata tutta alla particolarissima livrea, assolutamente indisturbata da alcun particolare che si allontani dalla cifra scelta. Un&#8217;auto come un fantasma, come un cigno bianco, come una creatura misteriosa che si affranca dalla realtà e scivola in un mondo di uova di struzzo e zucchero filato, un oggetto assolutamente a disagio nella vita d&#8217;ogni giorno, nato per solcare le strade dei sogni.<br />
E&#8217; bellissima, il lungo cofano enfatizzato dal profilo cromato che si raccorda alla piccola portiera, le ruote a raggi bianche, i grandi fari gialli e bianchi, e la sua bellezza risiede soprattutto nella sua natura irreale, la natura d&#8217;un oggetto privo di macchie di grasso, di olio motore, di benzina e fumo nero.<br />
E&#8217; un&#8217;automobile, certo, ma anche la sua negazione, quanto le opere di Manzoni rappresentano contemporaneamente l&#8217;arte e la sua assenza.</p>
